Every Pro was once an Amateur. Every expert was once a Beginner. So dream big. And start now.
This is a great life quote for almost every challenge of progressing that we could ever face. Sure you might not be the best speaker, artist, athlete, designer, entertainer or an expert of something in general. Greatness is made and not born – unless you are a royal baby of course! If you are a regular person, not born to a celebrity or anyone naturally in the limelight all the time, you’ll quickly find out just how much you really need to work to become better and better every day. No matter what your dream is. No matter what your skill is or what you would like for it to be. Everyone has to start somewhere. Even royal families are trained to do what they do and how to do it well.
The key is to not focus on how bad you are at a thing. Channel your focus on where you would like to go. Even the best artists out there have to start off sketching with the basic of all equipment. Then they gradually work themselves up to fancier mediums. Likewise, starting out at the gym today will feel hard and will be work, but in the end it will all be worth it! Go for your goals! Do what you must do to make you a better you.
Create great habits. Habits that will allow you to continually progress towards your goal. Whatever you do, do not give up.
I’ll share something that was extremely embarrassing to me and still kind of is. I live on an island – a place completely surrounded by water – and I didn’t learn how to swim until sometime last week. I kept making excuses as to why I could not swim and how I was afraid of being in the deeper parts of the water. Every excuse in the book was said.
The saddest thing about not knowing how to swim is the fact that I practically grew up on boats. Went fishing with my family many days. Frequented the beach several times a year (no, not everyday…geesh people here work you know!) and still found it hard to get myself to swim.
A really good friend of mine helped me. I don’t think they would have been able to help me if I was not at least willing to help myself first. I had to face the feeling of being afraid to venture into the unknown. I had to ask for help. In the end, my desire to swim overpowered my fear of swimming.
Today, I am not the best swimmer. I am still learning. I have grasped some basic strokes. Or should I say that I can get myself to move without sinking to the bottom! I have been going to the beach almost three times a week for the last three weeks. I now know what I have allowed myself to miss all these years. I enjoy going out for a swim. It is one of my favorite forms of exercise thus far.
I encourage you to learn something new. Let your desire overpower your fear of everything else. Here I am planning out my next set of adventures.
